We are delighted to announce that WCM has now achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification, building on our previous Cyber Essentials accreditation and further demonstrating our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cyber security.

Cyber Essentials Plus is the highest level of certification within the UK Government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme. Unlike the standard Cyber Essentials certification, Cyber Essentials Plus includes a rigorous independent technical assessment of an organisation's cyber security controls, providing additional assurance that key security measures are operating effectively in practice.

Achieving Cyber Essentials Plus confirms that WCM has implemented and independently verified robust security controls to protect our company data, systems, and clients' sensitive information against a wide range of cyber threats.

We're delighted to announce that we've become members of  Power by the Hour, an exciting new networking initiative introduced by Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

This fantastic initiative brings together businesses committed to supporting the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as they continue saving lives across Yorkshire every single day. 

Our Pre-Construction Director, Phil Burgess has recently joined the Board of Governors at Leeds College of Building.

Phil has significant experience within the industry, with his career spanning in excess of 40 years. 

After studying Quantity Surveying in what is now Leeds Beckett University, Phil has worked for several main contractors over the years and is a chartered quantity surveyor. 

Phil is 'over the moon' to join Leeds College of Building stating "Construction has been good to me. My father was a City & Guilds trained builder, so I really grew up in the industry. I thought it was about time I gave something back. LCB is an institution of high regard and one of a handful specialising in construction. I want to help the students who pass through the college to be the best they can be, both for the industry and themselves. Hopefully that will give them the best chance of the good living that construction has given me."

Matt Smith has recently joined the company as Commercial Manager. 

Matt is a results-driven manager with in excess of 10 years' experience within the indsutry, working for both multi national and regional consultancies before joining the company.

The Wordsworth team were out in full force to support England v Fiji in the quilter series at Twickenham where the final score was 38 - 18 in England's favour.

We were hosted within one of the corporate boxes and enjoyed a pre-match visit from former rugby player, Chris Ashton, who answered questions and correctly predicted an England victory, although Fiji were a strong team in the first half.  

Kathie Wordsworth, Leona Mercer and Sharon Oates donned their hi vis vests to participate in a corporate volunteering day on 24 September 2025 at Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract, alongside other members of We are Wakefield. 

Fortunately for all involved, the weather was very kind as the activities undertaken were outdoors. The team undertook a range of tasks including clearing the remains of a defunct summerhouse, filling planters with sand, general garden tidying up and lots of painting of wooden planters and furniture at the hospice. 

WCM has sponsored the physio team at Doncaster Knights, a local rugby club who play in the second division of English Rugby (Champ Rugby) for the upcoming season.

Whilst the season has yet to get underway, members of the WCM team recently attended a networking event at the club which included watching a training session taking place. 

The Wordsworth team have handed over their works on the new elective hub at Warwick Hospital. 

We acted as principal contractor under a construction management contract to deliver a new three storey building with the ground floor being fitted out to include a new kitchen and restaurant, pharmacy and retail spaces. 

Martin Thomas has joined the Wordsworth team as Operations Director. Martin is a highly experienced construction professional with a career spanning  in excess of 35 years at a number of main contractors, most recently being ISG.
